“Mentors can change our lives – whether they are teachers, artists, friends or neighbours. I love sharing, developing and shaping my art with the school community.”

Georgia-born Sopo Kashakashvili (1994) is an interdisciplinary artist and cultural mediator. Her work includes performance, video, music, sculpture, drawing/assemblage, text and stage design. She often creates accessible installations in which textiles play an important role and describes her approach as “social constellations”. In her work, Kashakashvili deals with issues of identity, migration and the interplay of social structures – how they function or not. She examines the way people live together, how organised systems work and what role the body plays here. Hew work is often rooted in a place and draws on the local history. She uses archive material – primarily in the form of audio recordings – and carries out conversations and interviews as part of her artistic research. One particular feature of her visual imagery is her frequent use of various red tones. Her artistic endeavours also focus on collaborative and collective work, public interventions and mobile structures. Kashakashvili is a founding member of the artist and architect collective “commune6x3”.
