“I’m interested in utopias, in the vitality of things and in magic. Inspiring ideas that evoke delight and enable us to see, do and promote good things.”

Sophia Mix, artist-in-residence 2024/2025 school year

Sophia Mix (*1985) is an interdisciplinary artist who specialises in narrative performance. With roots in Würzburg’s free theatre scene and poetry slam scene of the noughties and influenced by the Monsters of Liedermaching-scene, she gained a masters from Kassel School of Art. Calling herself a “multi-dilettante”, she writes and performs “sweary ballads”, and curates concert series, exhibitions and festivals. She has published the annual “New Dresden Daily” for Dresden State Theatre’s Monday Café with Ina Weise and Wanja Saatkamp since 2022. In the same year she won the audience prize at the live dubbing competition run by Dresden’s Cine Film Festival and in 2023 published the short story “Four Days Forever” in Hot Topic magazine No. 3, published by Marian Arnd Verlag in Leipzig. Her works pursue a sensual conceptual art form that finds expression in arrays of objects, performances and moving images.
