Why we wanted to have a flying artist’s room on our school grounds

In our region, a rural area rich in traditional crafts and agriculture, the students have little access to cultural activities such as museums or other art institutions. The flying artist’s room offers our students and teachers a unique opportunity to integrate art directly into the school day and experience it first-hand.

We wanted to create a space in which creativity, art and culture would be brought to life, opening up new perspectives for our students that they would not otherwise be able to experience in person.

“Everyone is an artist!”

Our hopes, desires and expectations

  • Insight into the world of art featuring different techniques and working methods
  • Platform for developing individual creative ideas
  • Promote self-awareness and teamwork through shared projects
  • Art as the interface to interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teaching
  • Initiate projects that enrich school life

Why it needs to be a visual artist

A visual artist can introduce our students to art in a particular way, as they will not just learn art techniques but also new ways of looking at and thinking about things. Working with an artist gives the students the opportunity to experience creative processes at close quarters.

Our first impression of the mobile architecture …

The mobile architecture of the flying artist’s room appears inviting and flexible. It fits harmoniously into the surroundings of our school and gives students the feeling that art is being integrated into their everyday environment. The school playground is a place for spending time together, playing and exploring – placing the art studio in the playground makes it close and accessible for everyone.

Joys and challenges

Art should be available to everyone. Every student, whatever their educational background, should be able to experience art. It will be exciting to develop new creative projects together and to send our students on a voyage of discovery through the world of art, enabling them to think beyond the limits of an academic subject and awakening their creativity.

One challenge could be that the project demands a degree of flexibility and some experiences cannot be predicted or planned.

“We are incredibly excited about the flying artist’s room and look forward to the new inspiration, creative ideas and perspectives that it will bring to our school. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience art in a whole new way and to work together to create something new.”

How will we feel when the flying artist’s room moves on in two years’ time …

When the flying artist’s room moves on after two years, we will have gained creative impulses and new perspectives that will continue to have a lasting impact. We hope that the spirit of the flying artist’s room will live on after its departure and will continue to inspire new artistic projects in the future.

“Artistic projects in schools are like journeys which help us to discover our creativity, expand our horizons and, true to our school motto, find new paths to tread.”
