Käthe Kollwitz School (2025/2026 School Year)

Käthe Kollwitz School (KKS) was established in 1969 in the state of Hesse. It is a combined comprehensive school in the district of Main-Kinzig and became a cultural school in 2021. The “Käthe” employs 70 teachers and serves 850 students from Langenselbold and the surrounding area. The school community includes UBUS staff (specialist teaching assistants), school social workers, special needs assistants, administrators and secretaries. KKS sees itself as a diverse and intercultural local education facility.

KKS is situated in large, beautifully landscaped grounds, with many trees and a well-established school garden. The school works closely together with the city of Langenselbold on projects such as youth development, a democracy project and careers orientation events.

In addition to compulsory subjects, the wide range of optional courses available at the school offers students the chance to pursue personal interests and areas of specialisation. These include French, Spanish, and natural sciences (“Käthe Research”) as well as ecology, robotics, IT, nutrition and catering, gardening, drama, Erasmus, arbitration, creative writing (the “Käthe Blog”), a bicycle workshop, work experience days and the “Digital Heroes” education programme. Various working groups provide further opportunities to explore the commercial side of activities such as mountain biking, sport, art, beekeeping, Fair Trade and much more besides. These form part of the all-day (profile 2) school programme.

Two project weeks a year give the children and young people a chance to work on the year group’s annual theme or on projects of their choosing. In years 9 and 10 students can choose art, music or drama, with the subsequent staging of multi-disciplinary musical performances. The KKS cultural programme begins in Year 5 with Christmas concerts and these are followed by summer concerts. The school has also developed the tradition of “Käthe Kultur” talent shows for all year groups.

Careers guidance covers a broad spectrum at KKS. Here, the school is able to draw on a well-founded approach: two 14-day work placements in years 8 and 9, a taster day, a Girls’ and Boys’ day, a collaboration with the job centre, support through the “careers guidance log”, careers orientation events and company visits are all part of the programme.

KKS – a lively, colourful and active school!

“As a cultural school, we see art as enrichment in every subject area!”

“The flying artist’s room is a special place to be. The fact that it is located in the school grounds will definitely help it to be a great meeting place for the school community!”
