MANUALS & TOOLS FOR INSTITUTIONAL SABOTAGE, since 2021
Research series into a security gap in our electricity supply to buildings: short circuits as a sabotage weapon.
Converted electricity cable and Schuko plug (grounded plug)

Text extract: “Short circuits are a highly dangerous and effective way of interrupting the power supply within selected sections of a building. […] It is too easy to build a device that can be used to turn off the power supply via a completely normal power socket. […] Why do we leave ourselves open to this security gap? How can we close it?”

Exhibition: New National Gallery, Berlin.
Property: Studio Johannes Jakobi

Exhibition: Museum of Photography, Berlin.

1x AUSSER SICH SEIN, since 2017

The artistic creations of Johannes Jakobi tend to explore a particular question. In this case: “How would it be if you could see your body from the outside (as, for example, in a video game) while you move around freely?”

To find out what that is like, Jakobi designed various scenarios for virtual reality glasses linked to small cameras.

2020: VR video corridor, in which you can get a bird’s eye view of your own body in real time.
Exhibition: Berlin University of the Arts

2020: Device which can be used to see your own body moving freely from various angles.
Initiative at Bi´Bak Berlin

2018: Swapped Reality – Device that allows two people to exchange perspectives.
Initiative with the Marburg Art Association in the Schlosspark

HEARTBEAT FEEDBACK, 2019
Various devices which can be used to listen to your own and another person’s heartbeat at the same time.

Text extract: “The heart is a muscle that we can’t really control. […] What would happen if you listened to your own heartbeat and that of another person at the same time? Would they affect each other? If so, in what way?”

To find out, Jakobi designed three different settings in which this question could be explored.

Exhibition: Berlin University of the Arts
