WALDMEISTER TEMPLE SALE – KULTUR TRIFFT LEERSTAND

Vacant property, 2023, Kurt-Schumacher-Straße 31, Kassel

The exhibition “Culture meets vacant property” is a cultural project in Kassel that came about from asking how culture can contribute to city centres being used in a way that is fit for the future.

In their work “Waldmeister Temple Sale”, artists Paula Mierzowsky and Janosch Feiertag explore destructive temples to consumerism, the erosion of values, and a need for the stability and encouragement that come from nature and spirituality.

WORPSWEDIAN SOUVENIRS, 2023

Residency in the Albert Hall, Worpswede, 2023 as part of the “Überwindungen” festival, organised by the Künstlerhäuser Worpswede residential art centre

The “Albert Hall” (a former kiosk in Worpswede’s public lavatories) was taken over by Janosch Feiertag for two weeks and converted into a souvenir shop. Characterised by encounters with bus travellers, pensioners and local youngsters, postcards, posters and other “Worpswedian souvenirs” were created in workshops held in this temporary print shop.

During the nine-month “Create a political player” project, artists worked with children and young people on the themes of racism, discrimination and anti-Semitism.

Several small artists’ collectives emerged out of these weekly workshops held in the Streetbolzer Haus at the Nordstadt stadium and the Schlachthof youth centre, including the Canavar Kizlar collective and the Çukur collective.

In addition, a number of summer holiday workshops were held, including “Spacecamp – holidays in space”, “Stickers against stupid everyday racism” and “Hearing and being heard”.

WILLINGSHAUSEN ART BURSARY, 2021

As part of the Willingshausen art bursary, works were produced about the area and the rural culture that can be found in north Hesse.

It concluded with an exhibition in Willingshausen’s art gallery. In collaboration with the Frankfurt artist and designer Vincent Brod, a magazine was produced in 2023 that recounted Janosch Feiertag’s experiences and impressions in both textual and visual form.

HERE IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD – Billboards advertising neighbourly help during the first Covid lockdown, Kassel, 2020

Part of the “Here in the neighbourhood” project of the Schlachthof cultural centre

At the start of the Covid lockdown, Janosch Feiertag created five hand-painted billboards advertising the help available to people in the north of Kassel.

The billboards were primarily aimed at those who were particularly at risk from infection. They gave the telephone numbers of the volunteer centre that was coordinating assistance with shopping and of local associations in the neighbourhood offering help.

He drew inspiration for the design of the billboards initially from online appeals, such as “What would you bring home from the supermarket for granny?” or “What are the essentials to put in your shopping trolley during Covid?”
