In the flying artist’s room I want…

to face facts as they are quite honestly: we’ve all failed at some time or other and in some way. Or at least we’ve messed something up.

But what if we think about failure in a different way? Perhaps it’s a building block to creating something new, something exciting! In the flying artist’s room we should and ought to be allowed to research and design things without being afraid. It would be really nice if lots of projects were to emerge that can be sustained in future too.

What inspires me

I often find inspiration in the small, unremarkable things in everyday life. They’re moments that surprise you and make you think about things or laugh.

I’m interested…

increasingly in temporary laboratories, workshops and research projects in a field of work that encompasses different subjects.

Who should there be a monument for?

It doesn’t need to be a monument. But I’m amazed at and appreciate people who are engaged, ask questions, remain true to themselves, don’t let themselves be budged and love what they do.

“The public space can serve as a public social meeting point, a place for education, culture and sport, offer places for discussions about society and engagement, and consequently fulfil an important democratic function.”

Fabian Knöbl, artist-in-residence 2022/2023

What I dream about

About the moment when you’ve been thinking long and hard and something just comes into your head, about the moment when you haven’t yet started and you’re looking forward to the ideas, and about the moment when something emerges and you think it’s good. About boundless ideas and terrific failure…

The ordinary view of things

is something I’d like to shatter and challenge in the flying artist’s room.
