In the flying artist’s room I want to …

create strong works as an artist, and as a person serve the school and its surrounding area with my open, creative presence and artistic philosophy of colourful coexistence and colourful vitality.

I’m inspired by …

Generally I get most of my inspiration from nature and the botanical world. But I also love being inspired by other people. At Paul Moor School I’m expecting my communication with people to be colourful!

What’s important to me are …

colours, love, music, an open heart, a smile.

For me, diversity is …

being able to comprehend how other people feel.

“In my workshops it’s important to me that the participants’ individual creativity is encouraged and stimulated in order to be able to artistically celebrate the diversity among us.”

Ghaku Okazaki, artist-in-residence 2023/2024 & 2024/2025

In an ideal world …

… all kinds of people with different identities will live together.
In practical terms, we’re very close to that in Germany. We’re just not quite ready for it.

… a better balance between nature and people would be restored. But we’re not ready for that either.

I grew up near a mountain. I’d like not to lose the huge respect I’ve had for it since I was a child. Especially in school, where children and young people experience and learn a huge amount, I think the topic “humans and nature” should be discussed more often.

Creating something together …

is exciting. It could be an ensemble, a play or the whole time at school … Exciting!

I hope that the school/students at the end of my time as artist-in-residence …

have become good friends with me. Artistically speaking, I hope that my time here will leave something colourful and vibrant behind.
